“The secret of getting ahead is getting started.”
As you may have noticed, it’s been quite a number of days since I last published a blog post, and I hold my hands up, it’s all my fault, guilty as charged. It’s just, I’m having a hard time trying to motivate myself this week, even to simply get creative and write this blog which I actually really enjoy. And it’s very frustrating to me not only because I’ve gone to bed every night and thought, “what have I actually done today?!” but also because when I actually get going with what needs to be done, i.e. practicing my french or doing some much needed exercise, I do thoroughly enjoy it.
This all comes down to laziness. I am very lazy. It’s so much easier to think of the here and now rather than the benefits of getting things done. For example, 5 minutes ago, I was super comfy on my bed, chilling with a cuppa and watching some catch-up programme that isn’t all that interesting, and I’ve done that all evening and yet, only now have I decided to get off my arse and do something. (Although I am technically still sitting down, but that is besides the point). Moreover, when I need to revise for a test, I put this off for so long because just the word ‘revision’ makes me want to curl up into bed and pull the covers over my face. But this is only because when I think of revision, I think of sitting at a desk and reading through textbooks, and learning grammar rules in the most boring of ways. In fact, there are much more enjoyable ways of learning and revising, and I know it, yet I choose not to do it.
The key is to find what motivates me, what gives me the energy to get up and get going, and I’ve found more often nowadays that it’s simply thinking about what I want in, let’s say, 5 years time. Well I have to be truly honest, I’m not 100% sure of what exactly that is right now, however I do know that I want to be settled, with a good job and not regret failing that one important exam or having not taken up an amazing opportunity simply because I was feeling lazy that day.
Anyhow, for now, I’ve found that a great playlist is an excellent motivator. I’m totally in love with this song at the moment, just because it makes me want to get up and boogie… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XdP_CH8I3AU and it always makes me feel so much more motivated and positive! Positivity is so important, so smile, think happy thoughts, and get going! If this doesn’t help, then you could always appreciate how much cleverer you are than this woman here…
What gives you the get up and get go…?
